Silly Bee's Chickadees Spring 2015 Goodly Granizados Collection: Swatches and Review

Hey everyone! I have a new collection from Silly Bee's Chickadees to share with you today. The Goodly Granizados Spring 2015 Collection consists of four colorful glitter polishes, all inspired by Granizados, a icy slushy treat served in Central and South America. During the summer months here in Texas, I live for snow cones, so I was excited to see a collection inspired by the bright fruity colors. 

These four are all clear based glitter polishes, build-able in three coats but since they are a bit thick, I found them to better with one coat over a colored base. I would also recommend applying a couple of layers of topcoat to get a nice smooth finish. 

As for how to wear these, you could go the with a more literal Granizados look, applying the colors over a white base to resemble a snow cone. I went another direction and applied each polish over a equally bright color, to show off some color contrast. I loved how the pairings looked, particularly Naranja layered over the aqua, that one was my favorite combination.

Hello again! To make today even more festive, I have a new collaboration holiday polish from Silly Bee's Chickadees to share with you guys. Earlier this year Melly asked if I would like to take part in her Silly Bee's Chickadees Gift of Melly and I am excited to show off what we came up with. The Gift of Melly is a collection of collaboration polishes inspired by favorite holiday movies and $2 from each polish will go the charity chosen by each of the participating bloggers.

I chose Hospice Austin as the charity to support. While there are a number of wonderful national charities and awareness organizations, I feel that giving support to a local charity or service makes a huge impact in your own home base. Hospice Austin is a a non-profit organization that provides a enormous service to families and patients in their time of need and for each bottle of Ida's Electric Snow purchased, $2 will go to them.

I chose The Nightmare Before Christmas as my holiday movie. It's definitely something I watch every December (as well as October) and I especially love the scene where Jack Skellington discovers Christmas Town. I have been know to sing What's This? way too much, so I chose that particular scene as my inspiration. 

Ida's Electric Snow is a clear based topper polish with matte white glitter, various colored metallic glitter and a touch of blue iridescent shimmer/glitter. 

I can not tell you just how much I love this polish! You can totally see the inspiration behind this, the white snow, the holiday lights, the sparkle in the air, so so fun!

Here is another layered look, this time over a dark base to show off those iridescent glitter. 

For each photo, I applied just one coat over the base color.

Beautiful color! I love the complimentary gold to the blue toned violet base. This dries down to a matte look and for those that prefer shine, a layer of topcoat is a simple add.

Even more gold with the flake topper, which pairs really well against the base. 

I didn't have a chance to apply the beads as I was swatching but I wore all both polishes and added the gold beads of this nail-of-the-day look. 

Gorgeous polishes AND for a wonderful cause, I wholeheartedly can endorse that!

ABOUT TUMAINI:

The 2014 Glitter for Good nonprofit: Tumaini Children’s Village

Through the rest of 2014, $1 from every bottle sold will go directly to support the good work of Tumaini. 

Tumaini, which means "hope" in Swahili, provides just that for children who may otherwise be living on the street and turning to crime and drug abuse to survive. The home is a safe environment where children can grow and learn to become productive members of society.

Founded in 2010, Tumaini is located in Soy, northwest of Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. Currently, the orphanage is home to approximately 70 children, ages 6 to 13 in six houses, each watched over by houseparents.

I learned about Tumaini through my sorority sister, whose teenage daughter volunteers there during the summer. I am continuously inspired by young people who serve to make our world a better place. Grace is one of those amazing, selfless young people. 

Of her experiences, Grace says, "I love helping out at the orphanage in Kenya and it makes me realize how blessed I really am and to never take anything for granted. These kids are so well behaved and so appreciative of what they have been given and I am lucky enough to get the chance to meet them. I see the smiles on these faces and I know they are in the right place and are grateful for what little they have."

Silly Bee's Chickadees By a Lady Collection

Hello hello! I have a new collection from Silly Bee's Chickadees to share with you all today. The By a Lady collection is a trio of polishes inspired by Jane Austen and her legendary heroines. The colors all dry to a matte/satin finish but for each look I have a photo with and without topcoat. I personally love how each of these look with topcoat, the shimmer really comes alive that way, thought worn in it's original matte is a lovely sophisticated variation. No problem formula wise, each one was easy peasy with two coats of polish. I think the polishes are quite pretty and definitely bring to mind colors that would worn in dresses worn by Emma Woodhouse, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, and Elizabeth Bennet. 

The By a Lady collection is available right now in her shop for pre-sale and tomorrow, July 1st will be officially be live with individual full size bottles as well as a mini bottle set that will retail for $15.

Hey all! I have a new trio from Silly Bee's Chickadees to show you guys today. The Island in the Son Trio is a set of three fruity colors with matching gold dot glitter accents. I loved the juicy and summery colors! And the gold dots are a lovely touch. The inspiration for this set comes from the tropical fruit grown in Jamaica and Melly's personal experiences there. And the best part of purchasing this trio? 100% of sales will go to funding lunch sales for hundreds of children during Melly's return trip in July. So buy some pretty polishes and help feed some kids!

Silly Bee's Chickadees Bayou Baby Cakes

Hello all! I have polish from Silly Bee's Chickadees to share with you guys today. Bayou Baby Cakes is inspired by Mardi Gras and all the shenanigans that commence with that holiday. There is even a little "baby" glitter in the polish but I didn't grab that when applying. It is a clear based glitter topper with green, gold, and purple glitter and gold shimmer. All colors reminiscent of Mardi Gras colors but also something you could wear anytime. I especially liked how it looks over a pale polish. As of this moment, this polish is not in stock BUT make sure to follow Silly Bee's Chickadee's Facebook page for restock updates.

Silly Bee's Chickadees Día de los Muertos Duo

Hello hello! It's Friday, which always makes the day just a little better, and I have a post on Silly Bee's Chickadees for you all today. Melly's Marigolds and Calavera Queen are part her limited edition Día de los Muertos Duo. Melly's Marigolds is no longer in stock but there are a few Calavera Queen polishes still left, though they will be not available past November 2nd, so get them while you can!

Día de los Muertos is a primarily a Mexican holiday, though it's observed in many other parts of the world, and on this day, family and friends get together to remember those loved ones they have lost. This holiday is celebrated between October 31st through November 2nd, including today. While some may see this holiday as macabre, I have always loved the traditions and love that are associated with these days. The polishes in this duo are inspired by the traditions of Día de los Muertos and you can really see the thought that went into the color selection by Melissa. Melly's Marigolds and Calavera Queen both look very fun and pretty even if you don't know a single thing about Día de los Muertos but if you do, it just makes them a little more special. 

When I ordered this duo, Melissa, the creator of Silly Bee's Chickadees, included a little gift bag with my purchase. The candies were gone more quickly than I want to admit and the stamped image of the sugar skull is one that Melissa carved herself!

Marigold yellow crelly with yellow, gold, and copper glitter throughout. 

Meant to represent the marigolds that are used to decorate the alter and graves of loved ones.

Clear base with purple, yellow, white, black, pink, and red hearts. 

Each color was selected with a specific thought in mind:

Red is symbolic of blood, for Christians it has special meaning as the blood of Christ shed for his disciples. I chose heart glitters to represent the Sacred Heart.  

Purple is the color of grieving. Purple is often used to dress churches during the season of Lent.  

Yellow and orange represent the sun and the source of energy and renewal most commonly displayed using marigolds.  

Pink is the color of celebration during day of the dead festivities, which really is what the holiday is about, celebrating the lives of those who have passed on before us.

I applied the super cute sugar skull nail decals that I got my package over Elevation Polish Mont Blanc.

I love how this turned out! 

The decals were very easy to apply considering it was my first time using them. 

The sugar skulls were made by RLRCreations Nails Art and those, along with many other designs, can be purchased here.
