Great Lakes Lacquer The Friends Collection, Part Two: Swatches and Review

Provided for Review
Good morning! I have a new collection from Great Lakes Lacquer for you today. The theme of this collection is a continuation of her previous debut collection, in which Mariah (Great Lakes's maker) draws from inspiration from her personal friendships. There is even one inspired by me! I am including notes from Mariah to give you some creative insight about each polish, look for those prior to the polish description in italics.

The Friends Collection, Part Two will be released this Sunday, September 27th at 3 pm EST in Great Lakes Lacquer's shop

"A woman with a heart of gold and the mind of a 12-year-old boy, this lady is quick with the sass and can make a sailor blush. Still, she is a great friend who is always there with a helping hand, especially for those who can’t speak for themselves. She does amazing things for animals in need, even fostering for those who would be forgotten otherwise. Her huge heart and voracious vocabulary are a huge inspiration to me."

Great Lakes Lacquer The Animal Advocate
Two coats
Burgundy wine linear holographic with gold shimmer and fuchsia ultra-chrome flakes
Hot damn, this is just crazy pretty. The color is a red toned purple and the added flakes and shimmer add some complexity. It has a medium to high density holo flame.

"There is more to this one than there seems, at first. At the surface, there is quiet but underneath the depths are limitless and rolling, almost like a river. You would never know that she has all the amazing talents that she does if you don’t take the time to get to know her. From making nail polish to architecture to the culture she cherishes, the multifaceted side of this lady never ends."

Great Lakes Lacquer The Enigmatic Soul
Two coats
Cobalt blue crelly with amethyst and copper shimmer and tiny emerald micro-glitter
Beautiful, just like the inspiration. It does come across as quite enigmatic, with the bold blue coloring and glitter and shimmer. It's is on the thin side with opacity, I applied two coats for my photos but in hindsight, I think I should have done one more.

"No one is safe from this lady’s swatches. Perfect nails, perfect polishing, and gorgeous nail art hardly covers it. I know I’ve bought many bottles of polish based on her pictures. Good thing she has awesome taste. I hear she is a mean mixologist and will ear bug you bad but I haven’t fallen victim to that yet. You can always trust her to give you the truth while considering your feelings. A true friend with the ability to make you empty your wallet."

Great Lakes Lacquer The Evil Enabler
Two coats
Deep purple jelly with orange holographic flakes, orange micro-glitter, and golden orange metallic glitter
So I mentioned that one of the polishes was inspired by me, and this one is it! I didn't really have an idea as to what Mariah was cooking up, so this was a very unexpected and delightful surprise. OMG. Drool-worthy. Purple and orange is one of my favorite color combinations and I love that this is a dark vampy purple with bits of fiery orange to contrast. It's very opaque, I have it shown with two coats for coverage.

"A more apt name could not be found for this one. When I first met this lady, the first thing she did was send me a bunch of nail polish that I had on my wishlist. I have gotten to know her since and she is as sweet as the goodies she sends. She is also tough as nails. To this day, I know of hundreds of people that she has visited her kindness upon. You, too, may have her to thank for your keen interest in indie nail polish."

Great Lakes Lacquer The Polish Fairy Godmother
Two coats
Terracotta pink with blue shimmer
This one is such is such an interesting color. Depending on your lighting and skin tone, it could come across as more pink on some, more peach on others. I love the very prominent blue sheen that it has. It is thick formula wise, probably the most thick out the collection. So with this in mind, wait a few minutes between coats to prevent dragging or patchiness.

"This lady is a world traveler and has the language skills to go with. She is also a huge nature lover. Her idea of a vacation is taking you out camping and making you climb things while she’s at it. I tell you though; the views when you wake up are worth it. Did I tell you she’d give you the shirt off her back as well? One thing is for sure, when I cross Patagonia off my bucket list, she’s for sure coming with me. That way I’ll always have an extra pair of clothes and be able to ask where a bathroom is."

Great Lakes Lacquer The Traveling Linguist
Three coats
Bronze brown jelly with gold shimmer
The color fits the inspiration so well. This lovely and rich brown polish is a nice entry into the fall season and the gold shimmer gives it some warmth. The formula for this one is a little thin in coloring, so three coats is best to for complete coverage.
